Legally, you don’t need insurance to play rugby in Australia, but plenty of players and clubs are choosing to get it anyway, especially when they think about what a bad tackle or collision could cost.
A broken collarbone or concussion doesn't just keep you off the field. Scans, specialists and other costs add up fast, and not all of it gets covered by Medicare, private health or travel insurance.
When you've got Flip activated and you're injured during play, we pay you a set cash amount for eligible claims, mostly within a few business days. Less financial stress, more focus on recovery.
Flip's rugby insurance covers you for accidental injuries. If you get hurt playing, training or even touring, we pay you cash for eligible injuries. It's not club liability insurance (that protects your club from legal claims). This is personal injury cover to cover you.
The cash payout is yours to use however makes sense. Give your recovery a boost with extra cash so you can stress less and get back in the game.
Which rugby insurance suits you depends on where you play, how often, and whether you're covering yourself or a whole team.
We can’t tell you what cover to buy, but here are some general guidelines to help you decide. Always read our PDS to see if Flip is right for you.
Whether it's club games, rep footy, sevens tournaments or training, you're covered when your policy's active.
The beauty of Flip is you only pay when you need it. Mix and match daily, weekly, monthly or annual cover depending on what your season looks like.
You can buy Flip Roaming by the week or in 30-day blocks. It reimburses you for medical expenses overseas and pays you cash for all eligible accidental injuries on your trip, not just when you're on the field.
Flip Roaming gives you two layers of protection.
Flip Group Active is for rugby clubs, schools, rep programs, tournament organisers and tour operators who want to offer injury cover to everyone who plays.
Instead of asking players to sort out their own insurance, you can include it in rego fees, tour costs or event entries. It's a value-add that builds trust, supports player welfare and takes admin off your plate.
Liam was playing suburban rugby league when a tackle went wrong and he landed heavily on his shoulder. He went to emergency, got scans and was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder and partial ligament tear.
He paid $7 for Flip Active for the day and got a $600 payout.
Sara was competing in a sevens tournament in Manchester when she took a heavy hit and fractured her wrist.
Sara paid £700 (~A$1,400) for emergency care in England.
She paid $80 for Flip Roaming for a week and got a $3,900 payout.
Amira wanted rugby player insurance that was simple, fast and gave her confidence to play hard. After seeing Flip on social media, she signed up for a monthly subscription to cover training, games and even injuries outside of footy.
"Footy is a risky sport, but I just want to get out and enjoy it and not worry about what will happen if I get hurt. The whole process, from signing up to claiming, was really simple. It's worth it for me, and it supports what I like to do."

Lynn runs Gridiron Victoria and was looking for a way to build trust with parents and players in a full-contact sport. Before Flip Group Active, the organisation only had public liability cover, which didn't protect players who got injured during games. That was holding growth back.
"Gridiron Victoria has never had accident insurance. And that's why it was so important for me to find a provider that we could work well with together. Flip is a hidden gem. I’d encourage everyone to get it."

Here's how Flip works in real rugby situations, from local club games to overseas tours and youth tournaments.

Rugby insurance helps protect players from the financial impact of injuries on the field. Depending on the type of policy, it can cover medical costs, physio, dental work, time off work and sometimes gives a cash payout to cover other costs associated with recovery.
Some rugby insurance is included in club memberships or rep team fees, provided by state bodies or national associations. Other players buy it individually as personal accident or sports injury insurance. Travel insurance can sometimes cover rugby, but some policies exclude contact sports or charge higher premiums for them.

Rugby club insurance (sometimes called public liability or association insurance) protects the club from legal claims if someone is injured at a club event or on club property. Rugby player insurance (like Flip) protects individual players by paying them cash if they're injured. Clubs can have both types of cover, one for the organisation, one for the people.
